  • Couple ignoring each other.
  • AITH for choosing my daughter’s needs over my husband’s approval?

I'm 38F and have been married to my husband for 6 years. We both have kids from previous relationships. His son is 9 and lives with us full-time, while my daughter, Lily (15), has lived with her dad in another city since she was little. I've always had her during school breaks and a couple weekends a month, and overall we've made the arrangement work.
  • Lily has been dealing with some really nasty bu ying at school this year. Her dad and I have both been talking to the school for months, but nothing has really changed. Things

  • I spoke to her dad afterward and he agreed that moving in with me made sense. He said he'd start looking into changing his work situation so he could visit more often, and we agreed we'd figure out the details together. After that, I called my husband to tell him what we'd decided.

  • A few friends think I should have discussed it with my husband first, while others think his reaction is way too harsh considering why Lily needs to move.

  • So AITH for telling my daughter she could move in before talking to my husband?

  • slvrkt8 Hot take, but you and your husband are both to each other and to your daughter.

  • You have been married for 6 years, and yet you immediately say yes to a life changing decision without his input. I understand it's your child, but that's disrespectful as f There are other options to deal with bu ying besides a sudden state to state move. Whenever there is a huge decision like this, we don't give an answer immediately. We say, "we'll see what we can do for you", and then all 4 parents sit down and decide on something.

  • Your husband should be welcoming your daughter into that house with open arms and a shoulder to cry on. I suspect this isn't the first time he's shown this kind of behavior in regards to your daughter, considering the distance and his full time step parent comment. I'd be looking twice at him and other things he does. Who does the primary parenting of his son? Because if it's you, why is it okay for you to be full time step parent but not him?

  • Frequent-Resist-7293 Hmmm. I kinda agree with him, but only partially.

  • Yeah, it was a pretty major decision that was made without him, so I can understand why he's upset about that. But given the circumstances, I also understand why she made the decision without having time to discuss it with him first.

  • TT3809 Boyfriends, husbands come and go. But your kids are there for life. My kids come first, no if ands or buts.

  • AmberWarning NTA your daughter is your priority as I would assume his son is to him. After your daughter, your husband and step-child come next. I am sure it is, or at least it should be the same for him.
